The 2021 UN Food Systems Summit was unequivocal about the need for a systemic approach to address food-related issues. ECDPM, in partnership with Particip, evaluated the EU support to sustainable agri-food systems abroad and found clear achievements that are conducive to broader transformation changes as well as limitations when it comes to developing a more integrated, systemic approach.
This thematic evaluation assesses the performance of EU support to food and nutrition security, sustainable agriculture and fisheries at country, regional and global level over the period 2014-2020.
To achieve lasting change and meet its transformative ambitions, the EU must intensify its investment in innovation in a way that empowers local communities, strengthen knowledge sharing and accountability mechanisms, and improve collaboration and alignment among European actors.
